WORLD WAR I MEDALS. France - Germany. Peace of Versailles Bronze Medal, 1919. Paris Mint. MINT STATE.
The Art of Devastation-Unlisted (though cf. 6185.131521.5.a). 68mm. By Anie Mouroux. Obverse: Nude angel seated slightly left upon the globe, head turned slightly right, holding torch and cornucopia; Reverse: Personification of Germania reclining left upon shield, preparing to plunge dagger into her abdomen; destroyed landscape in the background. Attractive reddish-brown surfaces. A rather SCARCE type.

This type celebrates the end of the war and presents Germany as essentially committing suicide upon the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. In fact, little than 20 years later, Germany--on account of the severity of the treaty--would find herself, as well as the rest of much of the world, plunged into another global conflict.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
