WORLD WAR I MEDALS. France. Honor unto the Dead Silver Plaque, ND (1918). Paris Mint. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
By Louis Desvignes. 63x53mm. Obverse: Veiled female figure standing left, presenting rose to fallen soldier; Reverse: Standard and laurel branch with ornate cartouche for engraving. Lightly toned, with a few scattered spots. A VERY RARE piece in silver.

Following the ravages of the war, many awards were issued in order to honor the countless lives lost or irreparably altered during the many years of chaos. Solemn images such as those on this plaque were meant, at least in a small way, to show the gratitude of one's country for one's sacrifices.
