WORLD WAR I MEDALS. France. Gallia Silver Award Medal, ND (ca. 1925). Paris Mint. MINT STATE.
Maier-Unlisted. 64mm. By Alexandre Morlon. Engraved and awarded to Leon Pommeray. Obverse: Armored bust of Marianne (personification of France) facing slightly right, wearing winged helmet and holding branch; Reverse: Ribbon with inscription; all set upon branches. Edge: <> 1 ARGENT. Pleasing steel gray surfaces, with an alluring matte nature. Includes original box of issue.

This award medal features the iconic engraving of Morlon and a sublime Art Nouveau charm. The recipient, Leon Pommeray, was a lawyer turned politician, serving as prefect of Lozere, Gers, Vienne, and finally Haute-Savoie, one of which being the post for which this medal was likely awarded.
