KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Austria - Germany - Holy Roman Empire. 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Sendling Cast Bronze Medal, 1905. Munich Mint. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Kienast-2. 70mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Austrian soldier on horse rearing left, wielding sword and engaging Bavarian farmers, with one farmer fallen; Reverse: Evergreen tree, with Bavarian coat-of-arms at base. Edge: K GOETZ. Charming yellow-brown surfaces, with a few typical light casting pits.

The Battle of Sendling--or the Sendling Christmas Day Massacre--saw Austrian troops acting under the orders of Holy Roman Emperor Joseph I attack farmers who had been staging an uprising in the Bavarian countryside. A decisive victory for the Empire, the uprising was easily quelled, though those lost were seen as victims of the first revolution in modern history.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
