KARL GOETZ MEDALS. France - Germany. Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria/Victory at Dieuze Cast Bronze Medal, 1914. Munich Mint. CHOICE MINT STATE.
Kienast-142. 65mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Rupprecht right, wearing pickelhaube; Reverse: The Bavarian lion left, defeating the French cockerel; monument in background with battle and date. Pleasing tan-brown surfaces with a slightly glossy nature.

The Battle of Dieuze/Morhange was part of the early French campaign to restore lands lost nearly half a century prior in the Franco-Prussian War. The conflict in the region began in mid-August, with German Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria serving as commander of the Sixth and Seventh Armies. The French armies were no match for the Bavarians, and repulsed as is celebrated by Goetz on this medal.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
