KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Germany - Netherlands. The Dismissal of Kaiser Wilhelm II Cast Bronze Medal, 1918. Munich Mint. CHOICE MINT STATE.
Kienast-258. 58mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Personification of Germany standing facing, head left, holding reversed sword and presenting a "report card" to a crying, diminutive Kaiser Wilhelm; Brandenburg Gates in the background; Reverse: Wilhelm crouches on top of wall inscribed AMER/ONGEN; below, Georges Clemenceau calls for him to come down [for extradition and trial]. Pleasing light brown surfaces, with some fairly bold relief--especially noticeable in the figure of Germania.

As World War I was coming to a close and Germany's defeat all but complete, Kaiser Wilhelm's rule over the German Empire was at an endpoint as well. In November 1918, he signed a letter indicating his abdication while in exile in Amerongen in the Netherlands. In addition, the entire ruling class in Germany was dissolved, consisting of 22 kings, grand dukes, dukes, and princes.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
