The Dawes Plan allowed for Germany to receive a loan from the United States, which it then used to back its own failing currency with gold and begin repayment of her war reparations to the allies. The allies in turn used part of these reparations to pay back the United States for accrued war debt, thus repaying the original loan to Germany and then some.
From the Richard Jewell Collection.
