KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Germany. 100th Anniversary of the Death of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Silver Medal, 1932. Munich Mint. PCGS MATTE SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield.
Kienast-467. 36mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Bare head of von Goethe left; Reverse: Nude Adam and Eve embracing and dancing on top of the earth, surrounded by clouds; radiant sun shining upon them from above. A particularly alluring specimen, this near choice example offers deep gray surfaces and a charming deeper tone as one approaches the peripheries. The only representation of the type in the PCGS census.

Widely seen as one of the greatest German writers of all time, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe penned numerous novels, poems, dramas, and memoirs, even offering thoughts on nature and anatomy. So revered is his work that an entire subset of German medals celebrate solely him and his exploits, of which the present medal is an example.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
