KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Germany. Wilhelm Bauer 60th Death Anniversary Cast Bronze Medal, 1935. Munich Mint. CHOICE MINT STATE.
Kienast-508. 72mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Bust of Bauer facing slightly right; Reverse: Merman right, with back facing, holding up "U-boat." Edge: K GOETZ. Tan-brown surfaces, with a few lightly scattered marks. A rather interesting and fairly SCARCE nautical type.

The engineer and builder of the first German submarine--just four years after unification in 1875-- Wilhelm Bauer was integral to a type of warfare involving U-boats that would become highly effective and controversial during the war.
