KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Germany - Great Britain - Russia - Spain - United States. Non-Aggression Pact with Spain Silver Medal, 1937. Munich Mint. MINT STATE.
Kienast-529. 36mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Michel (personification of the German spirit) standing right between sheaves of grain, holding scythe; three canons pointed toward him on each side; Reverse: The personifications of Russia, the United States, and Great Britain sit uninterested upon western Europe, while a hand sets fire to Spain. Edge: Plain.

While the Spanish Civil War raged during the latter part of the 1930's, a nonintervention pact among 25 other nations was signed. Later however, nations such as Germany and Italy recognized Francisco Franco as the leader of the Spanish government, with Italy sending troops and munitions--mostly with the idea of testing their new weaponry. On this medal, Goetz alludes Germany in 1914 (all of the world against one) to Spain in 1937 (the one [Franco] against all of the communist forces).

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
