KARL GOETZ MEDALS. France - Germany. Pierre de Coubertin/Olympic Games Cast Bronze Medal, 1937. Munich Mint. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
Kienast-537. 85mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Bust facing slightly right; Reverse: Male athlete, with head left and holding lighted torch and wreath, standing right on globe. Edge: GOETZ. Some minor rub on the high points, but an otherwise impressive and large casting with pleasing light brown surfaces.

After serving as athletic competitions in antiquity, French educator and historian Pierre de Coubertin revived these ancient games and founded the International Olympic Committee, with the initial modern games being held--rather appropriately--in Athens, Greece in 1896.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
