KARL GOETZ MEDALS. Germany. Michael von Faulhaber, Archbishop of Munich and Freising Silver Medal, 1924. Munich Mint. MINT STATE.
Kienast-641. 34mm. By Karl Goetz. Obverse: Bust of von Faulhaber left, wearing biretta and cope; Reverse: Facing half-length figure of St. Korbinian, holding Gospels and crozier; three coats-of-arms below; all within wreath. Edge: SILBER 950. Deep steel gray surfaces, with some darker toning and hints of iridescence at the peripheries, along with some underlying brilliance.

Serving as the Archbishop of Munich for 35 years, von Faulhaber saw Germany through the end of the Empire in World War I and the Weimar period, to the rise and fall of Nazism and World War II. He also ordained Joseph Ratzinger (the future Pope Benedict XVI) as a priest in 1951.
