Vespasian (69-79). AR Denarius, Rome mint, 69-71 AD. D/ IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG. Laureate head right. R/ IVDAEA (in exergue). Jewess seated right on ground mourning, hands tied behind back; behind, palm-tree. RIC 16 var. (trophy instead of palm-tree); for rev. type, cf. RIC 287 (Lugdunum mint). AR. g. 3.07 mm. 18.50 RR. A choice example of this very rare variety with palm-tree. Perfectly centred on unusually broad flan and from masterly engraved dies, with bold details on captive. Brilliant and lightly toned.
