IONIA, Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater (9.5mm, 2.29 g). Lydo-Milesian standard. Head of roaring lion right / Two incuse squares. Linzalone LN1069 = Elektron I 20 (same dies); CNG 75, lot 390; Triton VIII, lot 450; cf. Lanz 160, lot 196 (hemihekte, but same punch); otherwise unpublished in the standard references. Small die break in field on obverse. Good VF. Extremely rare.
The object in the field before the lion's mouth may actually be an intentional part of the design, perhaps depicting a piece of the prey that the lion is about to bite.
