CYPRUS, Kition. temp. Baalmelek I – Baalram. Circa 479-392 BC. AR Third Stater (14mm, 3.54 g, 2h). Herakles, wearing lion skin, in fighting stance right, holding club overhead in right hand, bow extended before him in left hand / Lion seated right in dotted square within incuse square. Cf. Zapiti & Michaelidou 2 (Baalmelek I, for type). Struck from worn dies. Fine. Rare.
This type of third stater is known to have been struck by all kings of Kition from Baalmelek I through Baalrom, but the legend on the reverse is too worn to read which king struck this particular issue.
