HONG KONG. 1/2 Dollar, 1866. Hong Kong Mint. Victoria. PCGS PROOF-63 Gold Shield.
KM-8; Mars-C33; Prid-4A. Coin Alignment - Reeded Edge variety. A VERY RARE presentation striking of this short-lived type, produced with obvious extreme care, exhibiting smooth reflectivity in the fields and crisply squared off edges. Minimal evidence of past handling and a charming array of light pastel tone over both sides also contribute positively to the overall appearance, with hues seen including yellow, gold violet and rose. Further close inspection suggests this piece was struck using a reworked set of dies, as subtle die rust, most notably on Victoria's neck, along with incompleteness in portions of the ornamental borders, is indicative of a later die state. All considered, an items that would be tough to replace, and as such is deserving of placement in the highest echelon Hong Kong cabinet.
Estimate: $25000.00- $35000.00
