CHINA. Early Han Dynasty. Four Small Domes Four Huei Bronze Mirror, ND. Graded "78" by GBCA.
Diameter: 102 mm. Weight: 224.0 gms. The design features four studs evenly spaced in a square formation and four Huei patterns. The surfaces are mostly covered by attractive mottled thick green and red patina.

The Huei pattern is in reference to a venomous snake in Chinese mythology. There is a saying "It take 500 years for Huei to become Jiao, 1000 years for Jiao to become dragon". It is believed that the Huei pattern is a prototype of the abstract dragon pattern, usually found combined with a bird pattern, such as the present example, which is closely related to the of Sun god.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
