CHINA. Gold 4 Mace Pattern, Year 39 (1950)-A. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
L&M-1039; K-1583. Plain edge. A boldly struck Pattern with reflective surfaces and no notable marks in the fields, other than some fine scuffs.

Kann (1966, p. 440) comments, "The mint in Chengtu under the National Government, in 1950, produced 2 gold coins without denominations, dated 39th Year of the Republic. The dies of the Vienna-made nickel pieces of 20 and 10 cents...were used for the purpose, after the following changes had been effected: the date was altered from 25th to 39th Year; on the reverse side the 2 characters for 20 cents, respectively 10 cents, were removed, but the diminutive "A" (standing for Austria) was left standing. The purpose of this metamorphosis is not obvious. In 1950 China certainly was not in a mood to rise to the gold standard."

Estimate: $25000.00- $35000.00
