CHINA. Li Hung Chang's Visit to Hamburg Silver Medal, 1896. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Gold Shield.
cf. L&M 934-5 (for different medals pertaining to this event); Bennert-199. Commemorating the visit of Chinese viceroy Li Hung Chang in Germany with Otto von Bismarck on June 25, 1896. Obverse: FURST OTTO V.BISMARCK, uniformed bust of Bismarck right; Reverse: BESUCH D. VICEKONIGS LI HUNG TSCHANG B. FURSTEN, bust of Chang left, wearing cap. An incredibly majestic specimen, this near-Gem presents a rather deep cabinet tone with golden-cobalt highlights shimmering throughout. Some underlying luster merely augments its appeal. Compare to a similar example, raw and graded Ch. Unc, which realized a hammer of $15,000 in our August 2015 Hong Kong auction (lot #51245). VERY RARE and desirable, especially so pleasing.
Estimate: $25000.00- $35000.00
