CHINA. Nanking Lao Fang Jiu Xiu Silver Building Medallic 10 Mace (1 Ounce), ND (1940s). ABOUT UNCIRCULATED DETAILS.
Weight: 31.09 gms. Obverse: Building decorated with lion on shield motif; Reverse: Spade money with two lines of Chinese characters below. Brightened from extensive use in jewelry, but showcasing good detail. The only example of this attractively designed issue that we have seen.

As a way for the public in China to preserve wealth, the creation of medallic bullion issues became popular in the 1930s, and by the 1940s, many local gold shops were making their own types to sell to their customers. This issue was struck by the Lao Fang Jiu Xiu Silver Building, which opened up operation in Nanking in 1946. While still in its infancy, this area of collecting has attracted interest in recent years, as the types available to collectors are almost universally scarce to rare and they often depict interesting or culturally significant scenes.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
