CHINA. Fengtien. 1 Mace 4.4 Candareens (20 Cents), Year 24 (1898). NGC MS-64.
L&M-475; K-246; KM-Y-85; WS-0588. Variety with eyes in relief and four rows of scales on dragon. A boldly struck and lustrous Near Gem, this attractively toned piece is quite RARE in this state of preservation. Compare to a similar specimen--the only other NGC MS-64 standing at the top of the census--which realized a hammer of $12,000 in our 2019 August Hong Kong auction (lot 51106).
