CHINA. Kiau Chau. Nickel Plated Brass 10 Pfennig Token, ND (ca. Early 20th Century). PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.
Menzel-4287.1.2. The single finest certified of the type on the PCGS population report with none listed on the NGC census. Obverse: uniformed bust facing forward; reverse: P.H. in center, "WERT-MARKE 10 PFG." ("good for 10 pfennig") around. A bright and lustrous example with nice cartwheel luster and nearly complete intact plating. An interesting issue sure to add depth to the next collection it enters.
Made in Berlin as a token for the German colony of Kiau Chau, which fell to the Japanese in 1914. We sold an inferior example graded PCGS MS-62 in our Stack's Bowers & Ponterio March Hong Kong auction 2019 Lot # 60255 for an impressive $3,200 hammer plus buyers fee.
Estimate: $3000.00- $3500.00
