George V gold Sovereign 1921-M MS64 PCGS, Melbourne mint, KM29, S-3999, Marsh-239 (R3). Mintage: 240,121. One of the rarest Melbourne Sovereigns of the entire series, its mintage already low and further reduced by the remelting of the majority of examples. As such, even lower grade pieces are difficult to obtain, and in higher preservation they are almost never encountered. This lustrous near-gem survivor has been well-struck and clearly never saw circulation, displaying absolutely no major marks or scratches whatsoever, suggesting it was put aside soon after production. The last example of this rarity we handled (also graded MS64) sold at our April 2018 auction for $38,400; we anticipate similar excitement for the present offering.
