Great Britain, copper-alloy Admiral Vernon medal, 1739, Porto Bello, Vernon alone, unique variety, ex-Adams (plate). AC-PBv18N. 20.59 grams, 39mm. Dark AXF on a thick flan with bold portrait and clean fields (slightly granular), described by Adams as the single-known "discovery piece" (previously unknown, acquired in 1983) with slightly different portrait from obverse die 17 (baton between first and second buttons). Pedigreed to the John Adams collection and plated on page 61 of his book Medallic Portraits of Admiral Vernon (2010, with Fernando Chao).
