Tunja, Colombia, Banco de Boyaca, 10 pesos, 14-12-1884, series B, serial 00022, PMG Fine 12, finest and only known example in PMG census, very rare. SCWPM-S314; CHPM-6511. The Banco de Boyaca was founded in 1881 and issued notes for a short period of time between 1881 and 1886; the 1881 issues were printed by D. Paredes in Bogota. The central vignette is of a seated allegorical female figure representing knowledge while another small vignette just below in the red underprint shows a tunnel entrance. Moderately circulated with some small holes and rust stains (the latter mentioned on the PMG label), bold director signatures on the front as well as a penned annotation on the reverse, very rare and missing in most major Colombian paper money collections, as the present note is one of just two known surviving examples, thus a key note for the private banco collector. PMG #8071186-003.
($5,000-$10,000)
