Lot of three Potosi, Bolivia, 1/4 melgarejos, 1865, with three different reverses, PCGS AU53 (2) and XF40, all ex-Whittier (stated on labels). Burnett-97 vars; Fonrobert-9694-7 vars. Obverse with left-facing busts of Melgarejo and Munoz within legend A LOS PACIFICADORES DE BOLIVIA *; reverse with AL / VALOR / Y / AL / TALENTO at center above nine stars within legend CANTERIA DE POTOSI SETIEMBRE 5 DE 1865 * (some variation in placement of the reverse elements across the three different types); all reeded edge and medal axis. Two (one AU53 and the XF40) with dark toning, the other AU53 quite bright with light surface chatter. PCGS #32906237, 32906198 and 32906199. Pedigreed to the Whittier collection.
