Large lead cloth-bale seal with Maltese cross design, ex-"Bramble Wreck" (mid-1600s). 12.34 grams, 1-1/2" in diameter. Well-encrusted disk of lead with design on one side showing a small Maltese cross in center surrounded by six flared dividers between which are various letters undoubtedly related to whatever wool or cloth merchant packed or produced the bale to which this seal was affixed prior to loading onto this unidentified ship that sank off Bamble (often bastardized to Bramble, as here) in southern Norway. From the "Bramble Wreck" (mid-1600s).
