Bogota, Colombia, cob 1 real, 1653R, motto as P-LV-S, rare, NGC AU 53, Nesmith Plate Coin (stated on label). Restrepo-M24.9; S-B7; KM-9; Cal-778. 3.49 grams. Full but dramatically doubled (simple) shield and cross, with clear 653 of date in legend as a result but also with strange placement of what looks like two lions next to each other in shield, the crown above the right lion proving that that lion was originally next to the top-left castle (hence normal quadrants), full king's ordinal IIII in legend, nicely toned. NGC #4917432-001. Plated in Nesmith's 1958 article "A Hoard of the First Silver Coins of Nuevo Reino de Granada (Colombia)."
