EPEIROS, Ambrakia. Circa 404-360 BC. AR Stater (17mm, 8.58 g, 11h). Pegasos flying left, [A on hind quarter] / Helmeted head of Athena right; above, warrior, nude but for pileos, holding shield and spear, standing right; A to left. Ravel, Colts 117 (A53/P79); Pegasi 75 (same dies as illustration); HGC 3, 205; McClean 5104 (same dies). Toned, struck with worn dies, off center on obverse. VF.

From the collection of an English Queen's Counsel. Ex Glendining's (28 January 1998), lot 56 (part of).

The A on the hind quarter of Pegasos is apparently at such a high level of the relief that it is usually worn off or not struck up well enough to see it on other examples--no reference makes note of its presence. However, the A was clearly visible on CNG 93, lot 206, the first example on which it was visible.
