John V Palaeologus, with John VI Cantacuzene, 1341-1391. Basilikon (Silver, 18 mm, 1.07 g, 6 h), Constantinople mint, 1347-1353. IC-XC Christ Pantokrator standing facing within mandorla composed of pellets; line extending downwards from each side of nimbus; star in the outer left. Rev. KNTKN (Καντακουζηνός) John VI on the left and John V on the right standing facing, each holding labarum and akakia between them. Bendall, "Another new silver basilikon of John V and VI, 1347-1352", NumCirc CVI/3 (April 1998), 2. DOC -. LPC p. 140, 3. SB 2528. Same dies as CNG 112, (2019), 697. Very rare example, well-struck and nicely toned. Extremely fine.
