MYSIA. Uncertain mint (Parion?). 5th century BC. Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.93 g). Uncertain, irregular design in relief. Rev. Rough, quadripartite incuse square. Apparently unpublished in the standard references. Extremely rare, toned and most intriguing. Very fine.
Ex Gorny & Mosch 253, 5 March 2018, 173.
The similarities of the style, weight and fabric of this coin with the early drachms of Parion might be an indication that it was struck by that Mysian city. The reverse seems to be rougher and more irregular than the Gorgon issues; it is likely to have preceded them.
