AEOLIS. Kyme. Circa 2nd century BC. Bronze (17 mm, 4.24 g, 12 h). Κ - Υ Artemis, standing right and holding a long torch with her left hand, clasping right hands with the Amazon Kyme, standing left and holding a transverse scepter with her left hand. Rev. Two figures in a quadriga moving slowly to right: in front, a draped female, Kyme (?), with the reins; behind, a laureate (?) male wearing military dress and holding a long, transverse spear. SNG Copenhagen 113. SNG von Aulock 1644. An attractive coin, well-centered, well-struck and with a fine brown patina. Very fine.

While traditionally dated to later Hellenistic times the reverse, with two figures in a chariot, calls this into question. The male figure seems to be not only wearing military costume, he also has a laurel wreath on his head (clearly visible on this coin): if so, he may well be a Roman emperor (!), which would then place this piece into the 1st or early 2nd century AD.
