ΛAOΔIKEΩN NE-ΩKOPΩN A wolf (λύκος = the Lykos, or Wolf River), on the left, and a boar (κάπρος = the Kapros, or Wild Boar River), on the right, seated facing each other. SNG Copenhagen 540. Struck from the same obverse die as CNG 51, 1999, 914 (period of Caracalla or later) and from same reverse die as CNG 87, 2011, 850 (with the bust and titles of Philip II Caesar). Very rare and with a wonderful reverse showing the city's two rivers, personified by the animals from which they were named. Very fine.
