The Empire of Thessalonica. Theodore Komnenos-Doukas, 1225/7-1230. Aspron Trachy (Billon, 31 mm, 3.78 g, 5 h), Thessalonica, circa 1227?. IC-XC Christ nimbate seated facing on backless throne, wearing tunic and colobium, raising right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in left; ΔΣ ✶ sigla flanking the throne. Rev. ΘEOΔΩPOC ΔEΠ-OTIC O AΓIOC ΔIMIT On the left, Theodore Komnenos-Doukas, crowned, wearing imperial robes and holding scepter in his right hand and with his left, anexikakia; on the right, St. Demetrius, who is holding a sheathed sword pointed downwards, crowns Theodore. DOC 5b. SB 2162. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Good very fine.
