CELTIC, Central Europe. Vindelici. Early 2nd century BC. 1/24 Stater (Gold, 6 mm, 0.32 g, 2 h), 'Androkephales Pferd II' type. Male head to right, wearing diadem (?) and long wavy hair. Rev. Man-headed horse galloping to left, head turned back to right, hind legs with claws and body constricted by a torque; on horseback above, bird to right; below, bird standing left. Flesche 349 (same dies). Kellner, Manching, 65. Steffgen/Ziegaus, JNG XLIV (1994), 31-36 (same dies). Extremely rare, one of less than a dozen known examples and with an exceptionally clear bird on the reverse. The obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise, good very fine.
