JUDAEA, Herodians. Agrippa II, with Domitian. Circa 50-100 CE. Æ (29.5mm, 14.28 g, 6h). Caesarea Maritima (or Rome?) mint. Dated year 25 of Agrippa's first era (84/5 CE). Laureate head right / Square altar; ET KE (date) across field, S C in exergue. Meshorer 154; Hendin 1319; RPC II 2266. Dark green to black patina with some earthen highlights/deposits, some light roughness. VF. Rare and quite nice for the issue.
A peculiar issue imitating Roman asses, but with legends in Latin and Greek. Hendin (p. 307) notes: "Some theories suggest that these coins were minted in Rome, others suggest that the dies were made there or locally by Roman artisans and struck at Caesarea Maritima."
