GAUL, Uncertain. Circa 75-25 BC. AR Obol (8mm, 0.59 g, 6h). Imitating Massalia. Bare head of Apollo left; T behind neck / M A within wheel of four spokes. F&P OBV-8; Depeyrot, Marseille 64 (Massalia). Toned, pitted surfaces. VF. Rare with T on obverse.

From the B. G. Collection.

This issue belongs among a series of issues characterized by the presence of letters in the field on the obverse. They have traditionally been regarded as very late obols struck at Massalia, but current research indicates the circulation of these are overwhelmingly centered in an area west of Massalia, in the vicinity of Nîmes, suggesting that they are issues of the Volcae-Arecomici.
