FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. Æ Presentation Medal (67mm, , 12h). The Spirit of Music – "Orphée endort Cerbère aux sons de sa lyre". By Marie-Alexandre Lucien Coudray (1864-1932). Undated, but struck 1899 for the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Bust of Orpheus, holding cithara, facing slightly left, being crowned by laurel tree behind; artist's signature to right / Winged genius, head right, seated left on blank tablet, leaning back and holding quill and clarion; viols below all set on laurel wreath. Edge: (cornucopia) BRONZE. CGMP III 100. Brown surfaces, minor rub on high points. EF. In box (not original) of The Society of Medalists.
