NORMAN. Henry I. 1100-1135. AR Penny (20mm, 1.42 g, 11h). Pellets in Quatrefoil type (BMC xiv). Southwark mint (?); Algar, moneyer. Struck circa 1123. Crowned facing bust, holding scepter; to right, six-pointed star / + ALGAR : ON [: SVTWE], pelleted cross, with star at center; all within quatrefoil, with trefoil at each end and inward-facing fleur in each quarter. Allen, Henry 707-10 (dies L/m); SCBI 27 (Lincolnshire), 2381 and 2386 (same dies); cf. BMC 170-3 (for type); North 870; SCBC 1275. Underlying luster, usual striking imperfections. Good VF.
