---

Provenance: F.S. Cokayne Collection.

The Hibernian Bank, originally founded in 1825 and incorporated as a limited company in 1885, was thoroughly frustrated in its multiple efforts to issue paper money in the 19th century by the Bank of Ireland. Eventually, in 1929, as part of the consolidation under the Free State, it was allowed to issue notes. The bank was subsumed within the Bank of Ireland in 1958
