Russia Medal 1944 The medal "For the defense of the Soviet Arctic" is made of brass and has the shape of a regular circle with a diameter of 32 mm. On the front side of the coin is a chest image of a fighter in a fur coat and cap with earflaps with a PPSh machine gun. To the left of the figure of a fighter the outlines of a combat ship are visible. At the top of the coin on both sides of the fighter are silhouettes of airplanes. At the bottom of the coin are tanks. On the circumference of the medal there is an inscription in the frame "FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE SOVIET POLAR". At the bottom of the frame is a ribbon with a five-pointed star on it. In the center of the sprocket are a sickle and a hammer. On the back of the coin is the inscription "FOR OUR SOVIET HOMELAND". Above the inscription is an image of a sickle and a hammer. All inscriptions and images on the medal are convex. The medal with the help of an eye and a ring is connected to a pentagonal block covered with a silk moire ribbon of blue color 24 mm wide. In the middle of the tape is a green strip 6 mm wide. The edges of the ribbon and green stripes are bordered by narrow white stripes.
