Moesia Pentassaria 238 - 244 A.D.
Gordian III. Bronze. 10.3 grams, 25 mm. VF. Province Of Upper Moesia. Cybele, a Phrygian goddess close in function to Rhea and sometimes identified with Her. She also bore the names of Kiveva, Dindemena, the mother of Ideas, and the Great mother of the gods. The myths of Cybele are connected with the story of the young Attis. The goddess requires of his servants a complete subordination of her loss of self in the mad delight and ecstasy, when the priests cause each other bloody wounds or when neophytes castrated himself in the name of Cybele, leaving the world of everyday life and giving ourselves into the hands of a dark and terrible goddess. On a Golden chariot with a gear in the form of a tower crown on the head of Cybele appears always surrounded by the frenzy of the korybantes and Kuret, wild lions and Panthers. She is the ruler of mountains, forests and animals, regulating their inexhaustible fertility.
