Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.17 g, 12 h), Memphis, c. 332-323. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; to left, rose; below throne, ΔΙ. Kraay & Hirmer 569. Price 3971 var (with ΔΙ-Ο, not ΔΙ, as here). An apparently unknown variant. Attractive and clear. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, about extremely fine.
