Lapethos. Sidqmelek, circa 450-425 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 11.08 g, 2 h). 'King of Lapethos' (in Phoenician) Head of Athena to left, wearing a Corinthian helmet with a crest, a disc earring and a pearl necklace. Rev. 'Sidqmelek' (in Phoenician) Head of Athena facing, wearing a double-crested helmet and a necklace of large pearls; all within an incuse square. BMC 7-9 (same dies). Traité II 1363 = pl. CXXXVI, 14 (same dies). Tziambazis 48 (same dies). A splendid, well-struck and clear example, one of the finest known. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
