Cyprus
Paphos. Ti.... ?, circa 470-450 BC. Stater (Silver, 25.5 mm, 11.19 g). Man-headed bull moving to left on ground line, his bearded head turned back to right; below bull, Cypriote letter ku, initial letter of Kyprou/Cyprus. Rev. No visible letters Astragalos. Unpublished and apparently unknown, but from the same obverse die as Nomos 18, 2019, 213. Extremely rare, and probably unique. With a remarkably attractive obverse, very sharply-struck. Some faults and a test cut on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
From a European collection formed prior to 2005.There seem to have been at least two Cypriote syllabic letters in the reverse fields, but they were apparently deliberately erased from the die in the mint.
