Seleukid Kings of Syria
Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.59 g, 2 h), struck in the name of Alexander III, Babylon, c. 311-300. Head of Athena to right, wearing triple-crested Corinthian helmet adorned with a griffin rushing to right on the bowl, a pendant earring and a pearl necklace. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Nike standing left with spread wings, holding a laurel wreath in her right hand and a stylis in her left; to left, monogram of ΜΤΡ within wreath; in exergue, MI. Price - (but cf. 3749). SC - (but cf. 81). For another example from the same dies, see Gorny & Mosch 211, 2013, 191. A superb, lustrous example, sharply struck and of exceptional quality. Very minor flan fault on the obverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.
