Septimius Severus AR Denarius. Rome, AD 210. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head of Septimius Severus right / P M TR P XVIII COS III P P, Jupiter standing left, with thunderbolt and sceptre, flanked by two children. RIC 233. 2.81g.
Very Fine. Scarce.
The children protected by Jupiter are obviously Caracalla and Geta, as one is clearly taller than the other. Thus, the reverse ensures that the succession is protected by Jupiter.
