Fantastic beast (simurgh?) with a bird's body and the head of a cat or dog standing to left, with long tail feathers; annulet above; all within double linear border / Bull reclining to left with protruding tongue, wearing elaborate headgear and decorated shabraque. 2.82g, 27mm, 8h.

Given the religious taboos concerning the depiction of animals on coins, it is therefore believed that the extremely rare donative issues showing beasts only circulated in the private sphere of the court of the Caliph.
