Lucania, Metapontion AR Stater. Circa 480-440 BC. Ear of barley with six grains / Incuse ear of barley with six grains. Noe 250 (same dies). 7.89g, 17mm, 6h.
Near Extremely Fine; displaying the usual die breaks, with light cabinet tone over excellent metal.
From a private European collection.
Interestingly, this stater of Metapontion shows the 'ears' on the flan that are found on Syracusan tetradrachms and elsewhere, but are not common on the coinage of this city.
