ANCIENT COINS. GREEK. Kingdom of Macedon, Demetrios Poliorketes (306-283 B.C.), Silver Tetradrachm, 16.91g, 10h. Mint of Amphipolis, struck c.288 B.C. Head of Demetrios facing right, wearing a diadem and a bull's horn. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTPIOY, Poseidon, naked, standing left, his right foot resting on a rock, holding a trident in his left hand and resting his right on his knee, monograms on left and right (Newell 124 (CXVIII), pl. XIII, 1; SNG Alpha Bank 952; Dewing 1201 (this obverse die)). A wonderful and well-struck example in high relief, the obverse rendered with an ambitious gaze, with a superb iridescent cabinet tone, nearly extremely fine.
